Odds and Ends

"We’re borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet. Every bit of that has to change."---Al Gore

We must disgust God, at least Old Testament God. We’ve squandered abundant bounty and feel entitled besides. We’re spoiled, selfish, narcissistic and lazy. I should speak for myself. Guilty.

Reconnecting with Jenny Lou, Sara Day, Brenda Berryman even Melanie Dunn is thrilling me. I think I’d better attend my 30th reunion August 2. Perhaps I’ll rent a car and stay a couple of nights with David on the way. Besides my need to revel in the past, an out of town trip may be just what I need to get out of this post CI rut.

Last night I recorded a version of Expectations in which I found marginally acceptable. I’m finally on the right track (har-har) with the genre, beats per minutes, vocals and sound levels. My only concern now is the too long length.

Tonight Diana, Jeff and I will travel to Mom & Dad’s. Penny and her family are visiting Uncle Donny/Aunt Faye and this will be the first time Diana will meet her two youngest (my first for the youngest as I met the boy a couple of years ago when working in nearby Milwaukee). Sour Kevin Queer, her husband will be there. I’ve decided to politely ignore him.

Class of 1978.

Melanie Dunn phoned me a couple of weeks ago regarding our 30th class reunion. I remember old people telling me in my all knowing youth how time flies. Now old me knows it's truer than true. I've dealt this badly but now I'm at the end of my mid-life crises, I'm resigned to it. What else can you do?

Melanie asked me if I knew of anyone else in the class that I could reach and I volunteered that I had briefly re-connected with Jenny Sherburne a while back and I'd try to again. Melanie is tenacious and hounded me about doing it. I called Jenny last night. We had a great time. She is living in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her husband and two little boys. She is back to throwing pots but they're having financial hardship and like many americans is in peril of being foreclosed on.

I told her I had talked with Sara and I planned on coming to Ashville and to visit her and her family this fall. She welcomed the visit.

I'm excited.

Damn Cold

In DFW, running to the store for weekend grub before the ice hits. Always on the weekends? Well, it is January.
